God ,Lord of time

You must have heard that God is never late nor rushes, have you ever taken time to ponder over what this means. It is very clear from biblical and historical instances that God has the ever best planning and order of all affairs and occurrences in both Heaven and Earth, simply because His authority is abound in both.He causes things to happen at the most appropriate moment, neither too early nor too late.God created time and put two of his creatures in the sky to help all the other creatures measure time(Genesis 1:14).Humanly speaking our time starts at conception or taking it a little bit further ,mankind ‘s time started with the creation of Adam in the garden of Eden where we read about the events from the first to the seventh day(Genesis 1&2),but God was way much existent before that (John 1: 1-5).To God every event has its specific,God appointed time, which can never be missed nor altered in any way because He sayeth just as the rains and snow that falls from heaven cannot go back without wetting the ground and making it flourish ,surely also His word will be fulfilled in its time(Isaiah 55:10-11), (Galatians 6:9),lets looks at these examples.

Joshua 11: The northern kings joined forces and made camp together at the Waters of Merom to fight against Israel, for sure it formed an enormous force against Israel but look at what God says about it. The Lord said to Joshua, “Do not be afraid of them, because by this time tomorrow I will hand all of them, slain, over to Israel. You are to hamstring their horses and burn their chariots.”
(Joshua 11:6) And surely at God’s appointed time it happens: ”
At that time Joshua turned back and captured Hazor and put its king to the sword. (Hazor had been the head of all these kingdoms.) Everyone in it they put to the sword. They totally destroyed them, not sparing anyone that breathed, and he burned Hazor itself “(Joshua 11:10-11). I perceive God saw Jabin king of Hazor sending word to the other northern kings so that they could join forces and anhilate the Israelites and He appointed a specific time when all of them would fall by the sword for their obstinacy against the Israelites,Joshua may have been anxious about the large force of the enemy but God knew it was just a matter of time and this force would be no more, because it only takes His word and its done(Matthew 8:8)(John 1:3), it must be a very reassuring thing to know that as long as the battle is His(2 Chronicles 20:15) ,He appointeth the moment for the victory. What a good assurance to us the current Israelites(Believers) to always call and trust Him with all our battles.

Abraham and Sarah after waiting for a very long time for a child,God at His own appointed time sent them three of His messengers, when Abraham saw them as was his character he humbly asked them to tarry for a little while so that he could have something be prepared and offered to them,a clear example(literally) of attending to strangers ,even unto the angels as the gospel says (Hebrews 13:2),as they ate one of them said, “I will surely return to you about this time next year, and Sarah your wife will have a son.”Now Sarah was listening at the entrance to the tent, which was behind him.  Abraham and Sarah were already very old, and Sarah was past the age of childbearing. So Sarah laughed to herself as she thought, “After I am worn out and my lord is old, will I now have this pleasure?”Then the Lord said to Abraham, “Why did Sarah laugh and say, ‘Will I really have a child, now that I am old?’  Is anything too hard for the Lord? I will return to you at the appointed time next year, and Sarah will have a son.”(Genesis 18:10-14). After having waited for so long,self-doubt had slowly grasped Sarah’s heart, and what an unlikely assurance after even she had given her slave girl to Abraham so that they could get an heir through her (Genesis 16),How many times have we tried to complete or realise God’s plans in our lives without waiting for His time? Do we really succeed, absolutely not, simply because His timing is the best.We read here that when Sarah heard the angel’s words ,she laughed in great doubt, actually went ahead to ask the question which of course reached God’s ears. But clad in great in Love God didn’t withdrawal the promise but instead re-assured them that come the following year a time like then Sarah, would be a mommy to the promised son,and true to His word it happened at the very appointed time.
“Now the Lord was gracious to Sarah as He had said, and the Lord did for Sarah what He had promised. Sarah became pregnant and bore a son to Abraham in his old age, at the very time God had promised him.Abraham gave the name Isaac to the son Sarah bore him. When his son Isaac was eight days old, Abraham circumcised him, as God commanded him. Abraham was a hundred years old when his son Isaac was born to him(Genesis 21:1-5) ,and Sarah was ninety years old when the angels visited to inform them about Isaac’s birth so probably she was or almost turning ninety one at his birth.Wow! what a majestic display of God’s power and control over time and our blessings. To God it didn’t matter that both Abraham and his wife Sarah were very old,way beyond child bearing ages but at His right, appointed time they bore a son. This is a good lesson for us to learn to wait upon the Lord in faith and prayer and always remember He never forgets His promises(
(Isaiah 55:10-11), (Galatians 6:9) but determines/appoints a time when they would be realised.

One day Elisha went on to Shunem, where a wealthy woman lived, who urged him to eat some food. So whenever he passed that way, he would turn in there to eat food.  And she said to her husband, “Behold now, I know that this is a holy man of God who is continually passing our way. Let us make a small room on the roof with walls and put there for him a bed, a table, a chair, and a lamp, so that whenever he comes to us, he can go in there” and rest,by doing this it definitely attracted some blessing from God because He sayeth “whoever welcomes a prophet as a prophet will receive a prophet’s reward and if anyone gives even a cup of cold water to one of these little ones who is my disciple, truly I tell you, that person will certainly not lose their reward” (Matthew 10:40-42),it must have been a true act of kindness and generosity ,she purposed it in her heart and went ahead to convince her husband ,who bought the idea and they built the room and their offering was accepted,(a lesson to us,when we go offering a thing to the Lord,we should do it heartily and wholeheartedly and not begrudgingly for it to be accepted by the Lord),it is also worthy noting that they made the room for Elisha upstairs which shows high regard and respect to God and in extension Elisha who was God’s servant, this woman held God in great awe and that’s why she entreated His servant Elisha this way , what a challenge to us the current believers, how do we treat the true men of God? (we shall know them true by their actions),I perceive her acts were a form of worship, she was seeking God in this way and this paved the way for the latter blessings which she received from the Lord after her prayer was answered. Elisha continued visiting them and checking in his room anytime he was in Shunem, one day he asked his servant Gehazi to call the Shunemite woman, she came and stood infront of him,Elisha asked her what she would wish to be done to her as a reward of having gone into troubles of hosting them,he suggested two options ;to be spoken for to either the commander of the army or the king himself, what a display of authority ,by being the servant of Most High, Elisha had authority above both of them,an eye opener to us,should we seek authority in this world we just need to be the children of God Almighty and all shall be granted unto us, Modestly and being a virtuous woman who wouldn’t bear the thought of her having arm twisted the man of God,she declined both offers and left the room. But Gehazi,Elisha’s servant knew her point of need, she had no son and her husband was old.Elisha on learning this ordered her to be called back,on returning she didn’t enter the room but just stood at the doorway, this is a very good indication that she was clearly not in the business of exchanging favours ,whereby you do me a favour today expecting i shall reciprocate some other date,i perceive she only came back because of the respect she had for Elisha, otherwise having known his intentions of rewarding her earlier which she didn’t agree to ,she would have flatly ignored his call all together. What a splendid display of humility, faith and virtuousness from this woman. How many of us today can render to God or even His servants and expect nothing in return,Haven’t we read/heard of people who go collecting the items they had donated to churches once they fell out with the clergy there, forgetting that anything brought in the house of God with an intention of giving/dedicating it to God,once received it becomes sacred and cannot be taken back freely unless bought back through the God sanctioned methods(Exodus 13:12-13,15),(Daniel 5:23,30).As she stood on the doorway Elisha said to her ” At this season, about this time next year, you shall embrace a son “.Despite her initial disbelief, almost declining the token from heaven, she conceived and bore a son about that time the following spring just as Elisha had told her.At the call of His servant Elisha ,God gave her a son at that appointed time. She may have given up the hope of ever having a child but at God’s appointed time He sends His servant Elisha her way, whom after her acts of kindness pronounces the appointed time for her blessing and indeed she is blessed with a son.(2 Kings 2:8-37). A good lesson for us to learn to wait for God’s time in faith, truth and preparedness.Had she turned away Elisha as one of the masquerading idlers purporting to be men of God,don’t you think she could still be waiting?

During the reign of King Joram, son of Ahab ,there was great famine in Samaria, this famine was occassioned by a siege laid by Ben-Hadad king of Aram . There was a great famine in the city; the siege lasted so long that a donkey’s head sold for eighty shekels of silver, and a quarter of a cab of seed pods for five shekels.Things got so thick that people started slaughtering their sons for meat.Even though using a wrong approach the King decided to go and seek counsel from Elisha, servant of God,despite King Joram’s murderous reign he was in straits such that secretly he wore a sackcloth under his kingly robes, which i perceive to be a sign of repentance and humility despite the fact that the old sinful nature was still within him.(We should learn that,if we desire to walk with the Lord,we should foresake our old habits and let Holy Spirit guide us) Actually he went to look for Elisha so that should Elisha fail to give him answers he would be executed, but God being very faithful had already informed Elisha and prepared a way in which the famine would come to an end at His appointed time,of course God was seeing the straits the people were in but His timing was the best. When the king arrived at Elisha’s house ,he said , “This disaster is from the Lord. Why should I wait for the Lord any longer?” (Sometimes we erroneously blame God for our troubles, but living a carouse life is bound to attract a disaster) Elisha replied, “Hear the word of the Lord. This is what the Lord says: About this time tomorrow, a seah of the finest flour will sell for a shekel and two seahs of barley for a shekel at the gate of Samaria.” Wow what an unlikely answer at this time of great hunger. But to God is there anything too difficult to do?,absolutely none. The officer on whose arm the king was leaning on said to the man of God, “Look, even if the Lord should open the floodgates of the heavens, could this happen?” How many are times we question and doubt God’s promises in our lives,is there anything too difficult for Alpha and Omega(Revelation 22:13) to do? Don’t we know that all creatures in both heaven and earth stand at His service, haven’t we read how clouds(Nehemiah 9:12),(Genesis 9:14),rainbow(Genesis 9:13-16),frogs(Exodus 8:12),locusts(Exodus 10:13-15),wind(Numbers 11:31),(Exodus 14:21),rain(Acts 14:17),birds(Numbers 11:31-32),snakes(Numbers 21:6),fish(Jonah 1:17),fire(Exodus 13:21) etc served God? Elisha answered “You will see it with your own eyes but you will not eat any of it!” Coming the following day,the Lord for sure did open the floodgates in a spectacular way:Now there were four men with leprosy at the entrance of the city gate. They said to each other, “Why stay here until we die? If we say, ‘We’ll go into the city’—the famine is there, and we will die. And if we stay here, we will die. So let’s go over to the camp of the Arameans and surrender. If they spare us, we live; if they kill us, then we die.” At dusk they got up and went to the camp of the Arameans. When they reached the edge of the camp, no one was there, for the Lord had caused the Arameans to hear the sound of chariots and horses and a great army, so that they said to one another, “Look, the king of Israel has hired the Hittite and Egyptian kings to attack us!” So they got up and fled in the dusk and abandoned their tents and their horses and donkeys. They left the camp as it was and ran for their lives. The men who had leprosy reached the edge of the camp, entered one of the tents and ate and drank. Then they took silver, gold and clothes, and went off and hid them. They returned and entered another tent and took some things from it and hid them also. Then they said to each other, “What we’re doing is not right. This is a day of good news and we are keeping it to ourselves. If we wait until daylight, punishment will overtake us. Let’s go at once and report this to the royal palace.” So they went and called out to the city gatekeepers and told them, “We went into the Aramean camp and no one was there—not a sound of anyone—only tethered horses and donkeys, and the tents left just as they were.” The gatekeepers shouted the news, and it was reported within the palace. The king got up in the night and said to his officers, “I will tell you what the Arameans have done to us. They know we are starving; so they have left the camp to hide in the countryside, thinking, ‘They will surely come out, and then we will take them alive and get into the city.’” One of his officers answered, “Have some men take five of the horses that are left in the city. Their plight will be like that of all the Israelites left here—yes, they will only be like all these Israelites who are doomed. So let us send them to find out what happened.”So they selected two chariots with their horses, and the king sent them after the Aramean army. He commanded the drivers, “Go and find out what has happened.”They followed them as far as the Jordan, and they found the whole road strewn with the clothing and equipment the Arameans had thrown away in their headlong flight. So the messengers returned and reported to the king. Then the people went out and plundered the camp of the Arameans. And at the very time foretold by Elisha, a seah of the finest flour sold for a shekel, and two seahs of barley sold for a shekel, just as the Lord had said. And for sure at this moment there was great abundance in Samaria (2 kings 6:24-33, 2 kings 7) and the famine came to end in addition to the siege being lifted. From this passage we learn that at God’s appointed time ,the much needed relief is found and a sudden turn of events is experienced, all for glory and honor to God. From this entire article we should learn that everything is subject to time,at God’s appointed time transformation happens,God’s appointed time is the best and just like we strive to do our human preparations God clad in His majesty and infinite wisdom appoints the right time for everything after ensuring all the prerequisites are in place. In all our endeavours we need to play our parts and in faith and prayers wait for God’s right time and by doing this we shall avoid the mis-steps,consequences,regrets and anxiety that comes when we move out of God’s plan and order.
